Money raised will go towards helping children to become aware of the dangers of drugs through drug education lectures in schools, youth clubs and community centres throughout the UK

East Grinstead, West Sussex - Just before Christmas, the drug education and prevention charity, Narconon, held a highly successful fund-raising evening at the new Bluebells Café in East Grinstead's town centre.

The 50 guests who attended the Spanish-themed event were served tapas and then entertained by a spectacular dance routine thanks to internationally renowned Flamenco dancer Helena, with her Spanish Troupe.

The total funds raised -- from the entrance fee and from a lottery -- came to over £1000. First prize of the lottery was a £200 John Lewis voucher, kindly donated by Academy Insurance Services Ltd; second prize was a full carpet clean by East Grinstead firm Squeaky Clean; and third prize was a free haircut and styling session by Michael Todd Hairdressing, also based in East Grinstead. The money raised will go towards helping children to become aware of the dangers of drugs through drug education lectures (entitled "The Truth About Drugs") in schools, youth clubs and community centres throughout the UK.

The lecture, which has been shown to be very effective at empowering children to deal with peer pressure, covers such areas as: What is a drug?; The basic effects that drugs, alcohol and solvents can have on the mind and body; How drugs can give you blank periods and the consequences of that; and Why it is important to go for goals in life.

"It is great to have such effective community support together with such an enjoyable evening! The money will be well spent; the information we impart can really save lives," said Lucy Skirrow, director of Narconon Drug Education Services.
