Gala Classical Concert to Open 18th Saint Hill International Arts Festival

.
An evening of world-class piano, violin, song, drama and dance on Sunday 2nd Aug 2009 will officially open this year’s week-long Saint Hill International Arts Festival at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead.

East Grinstead, West Sussex - For the last 17 years, Saint Hill Manor (former residence of humanitarian and philosopher, L. Ron Hubbard) has been the home to the Saint Hill International Arts Festival.

Traditionally, the festival opens with a Gala Classical Concert featuring a range of extremely talented professional performers such as concert pianist, Gabriel Arnold, and Hollywood actress and singer Judy Norton (best known for her role as Mary Ellen in the Waltons).

This year’s concert will also feature Marion Shuster – Soprano, Martin & Anne-Marie Sonneveld - Violin/Viola, Mike Perroud – Violin, Georgina Roberts & Robbie Scandrett - Comedy Drama and Barbara Lanik – Classical Dance.

For the first time this year, the evening will close with a Grand Firework Display - a professionally staged fireworks extravaganza.

The concert marks the start of the week-long festival and will comprise all manner of arts such as painting, drama, singing, dancing, film-making, photography, fashion design and sculpture.

“The Saint Hill International Arts Festival provides artists and potential artists with the ideal environment in which to blossom, where art is taught by people with the correct technology, without invalidation, and where one is free to perform and be appreciated,” says Sheila Gaiman, Festival Executive Producer. “The festival is designed to inspire artists into greater productivity, for, as L. Ron Hubbard said:

‘A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists.’”

Barbara Lanik

The week will include hands-on workshops in a wide range of different art forms which attendees are taught and then get a chance to practice. Performances are prepared and given every evening to a very appreciative audience. Last year, there were workshops on writing as well as on film acting, given by the two-time EMMY nominated actress, Lee Purcell (star of films such as Big Wednesday, Stir Crazy, and Valley Girl). This year’s line up is just as exciting. There are singing, dancing, acting, sculpture workshops as well as a master class in piano. There are even workshops on kimono, jewellery-making and photography.

In addition, throughout the week, Saint Hill Castle, within the grounds of Saint Hill Manor, becomes a large art gallery, with art pieces being displayed in every corridor, and even outdoor pieces displayed in the gardens.

" The Arts Festival was the very first time I sang in front of an audience!

" I was about 11 and it was one of the very first lyrics I wrote. Even though I was sooooo nervous it didn’t matter because everyone was so supportive and understanding that I could relax and just show them my talent and I did. . .

" . . . they enjoyed it and I have never stopped singing since!

“I have been going to the Saint Hill Arts Festival for years now and I never get bored of it! In fact I’m looking forward to it already and it's only March. I enjoy the festival so much because its just a wonderful place to be, full of create and artists of all ages doing what they love to do.
"I have made so many good friends and have been given the chance to take part in the ever so fun workshops such as the fashion show, photography, plays, jewellery making and also being able to be given the chance to sing!!

"I have even recently got into a very good music college and I can honestly say that the impact the arts festival has created on me is a big reason how I grew in confidence and stage presence and all that. The Saint Hill Arts Festival is a wonderful place to be and I urge everyone to attend it!"
