Methadone is NOT the solution

Addicts not only addicted to heroin but also to methadone, the ‘answer’ to their addiction.

by Alison Withey

Recently there has been much media attention on the ‘collapse’ of drug rehabilitation services in the UK. The National Treatment Agency has spent millions since 2001, getting thousands of drug users in contact with drug addiction services. Last year only 3% of these cases were actually referred to residential rehab, while two-thirds were prescribed heroin substitute medication by GPs and NHS doctors working in addiction services.

Professor Neil McKeganey, Director of the Centre for Drug Misuse in Glasgow, speaks out in ‘The Independent’ newspaper about the irresponsibility of keeping addicts locked into addiction by the use of methadone. You can read what he has to say in the article dated February 1st 2009.

Over the years I have personally known many addicts who have been on long term methadone maintenance scripts. These addicts were not only addicted to heroin but also to methadone, the ‘answer’ to their addiction.

To illustrate this, here is a personal testimony from one of our students:

Richie after completing the Narconon Drug Free Withdrawal

“ I have been on meth for about 10 years. I’ve tried different programmes where you get drugs to come off drugs and it never worked. I came here and I came off the meth with just vitamins. I did really want to stop taking drugs and I put my mind to it. Twelve days and I was fine. The programme works. Finally I can look forward to a drug-free life with my kids and family.” Richie

We at Narconon know that residential rehabilitation is by far the best chance an addict has of beating his addiction and creating a new life. Many of us are living testimonies of this fact and we see, on a daily basis, the results of our residential rehabilitation program.

If you have any friend in need of help for drug addiction, here at Narconon Hastings we can offer that help. Our natural, drug–free, educational program has proven to be the most successful rehab program in the world.

Here is a quote from the author of our methodology; the philosopher and humanitarian L.Ron Hubbard:

“The addict has been found not to want to be an addict, but is driven by pain and environmental hopelessness.

As soon as an addict can feel healthier and more competent mentally and physically without drugs than he does on drugs, he ceases to require drugs.”

L. Ron Hubbard

The NARCONON Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation programme is entirely drug-free.
